Let’s Shave A Poodle 101 Dog Grooming – Pre-Bath

I did a live video stream about how I groom my dogs. The pandemic has us packed away for safety so how do you get your dogs groomed? Many of us miss taking our furbabies to get groomed where they come out looking perfect… Those were the days, but for now, your dog needs your help.

I’ve had my share of grooming, showing and training dogs and I, too, had to learn a lot about them. We bring our dogs into our homes with all love but we have to remind ourselves that this is a responsibility. When people tell you to do your research before you get a dog, I get it. I’m from the old school before the internet where actual books were your only source of information. Looking for breed specific books was an errand on the list with other shopping needs. Although the internet has solved that issue, sometimes the info highway can get convoluted depending on what you read. Well, this is not that kind of post.

This post is made to help you start grooming your own dogs and develop a new bonding experience. So let’s begin with tools.

Fine and wide tooth comb

If you have a dog that requires regular grooming, you will need a few things. A metal comb made specifically for dogs and yes, there was a time when I used a plastic human comb… Short story, it broke in my Lhasa Apso’s coat and he looked at me with disdain while I spent 5 mins picking broken plastic teeth out of his hair.

Pin brush and slicker brush

Long and double coated dogs need to be brushed everyday. That cute fluffy puppy grows coat by the minute so before you bring him/her home make sure you invest in quality brushes. As puppies, my poodles were brushed, combed and daily checked for any knots that tend to form in sensitive areas.

Small, medium and large brushes

Make sure you buy size appropriate brushes for your puppy. It can be intimidating to see this great big thing with a bunch of teeth coming at you so speak softly and encourage your pup by letting him/her smell all your tools before you use them. This is telling your pup to trust you because this tool is an extension of your hand.

Dual spray bottle with water and a small spray bottle with diluted conditioner.

Misting and conditioning the coat is also an awesome maintenance tip. My breeder friend taught me this tip years ago. I was preparing my dog’s coat, I had it brushed and combed out perfectly, but he decided that rolling in the grass and playing with my other dog was fun. I called my friend exhausted and totally whining. After he laughed at me, he told me to mix my concentrated conditioner and dilute it at a 1:1 ratio and lightly mist his coat while I combed through it again. Wow did I ever breathe sigh of relief. 4 hours of grooming was saved and he went on to get his Championship! This tip can greatly change your world and shave some time off their daily groom. Now don’t get crazy and douse your dog with conditioner their skin needs to breathe and dried conditioner on their skin can be problematic.

I left a couple of links to the brushes I use and a live stream where I’m prepping my dog, Babbette’s coat for her bath. Don’t stress about getting a brush, wash and final groom done in one day. A little progress everyday is a win for you and your furbaby!

How to Make a Baby

I’ve had some questions about making reborn dolls by many who would like to start to learn a new art form. I’ve been making dolls for many years and I love sharing some tips that I’ve learned along the way.

I have a few dolls I’m working on so I will try to share as many basic tips as I can. I hope you do start a new art form or hobby. It’s nice to let it some creative steam.

You’ll find my finished dolls on my Instagram page under @punkiepiebabies

I will be hand making dresses and will be adding some details for some special babies. I’m pouring all my creative skills into the next few dolls. I’ll record as much as I can to share with you.

My site has always been a mixed bag of my interests from trying new recipes, gardening, painting, sculpting, sewing.. I felt it is time to just show everything I can do and share when creating my special dolls of 2020. If you’re new to this, I create realistic looking baby dolls for medical, mental therapy and collecting purposes. All my dolls take weeks to months to complete and I only use top quality products and supplies. All hair is rooted into the dolls head and lashes one hair at a time. I also do something called micro directional hair rooting. This means I root the hair in a pattern of a swirl into the crown of the doll head one hair at a time. I practice and try different techniques all the time. I think that’s why I enjoy making these dolls so much. There is no one way to make these dolls. I urge anyone who is interested to try it. I’ll share more soon

Reflection

Another year is getting ready to wrap things up and it has been a very interesting and turbulent time, however I’m pleased with my accomplishments and I’m looking forward to a fresh new start.  Although it’s been an annual cliche I really do feel like I’m ready to take on more new adventures with some wonderful new people who have entered my life.

Out with the old is an understatement especially when I unknowingly walked into a situation with the wrong toxic people.  It’s safe to say that they not only took themselves out of my life but things have been so much better like a breath of fresh air.  I did come out better and ready for many more adventures without anyone holding me back.  A stagnant life is not living it is a fast way on the road to death and I am simply not ready to leave yet.

I have met some wonderful people who are more my speed and less emotionally chaotic.  The new year also brings more preparations for huge projects with my new partners via getting the word about Multiple Sclerosis.  I feel that new medications and newly diagnosed patients do need a voice while the world is getting more aware of what the disease is, what it does and how big the spectrum is.

I will also have open discussions with other patients from every spectrum of the disease and how it not only effects us individually but our family and friends as well.  I have met many people from all over the world and I believe it’s time to share the things that I’ve learned that can help others.

If you’d like to join in on our discussions please email me at stilettosupermom@gmail.com or hashtag me with #stilettosupermomlive

Happy Thanksgiving!

MS and Me

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 7 years ago and I’ve come to understand my disease more and more each day.  It’s much like riding a bike or driving, I remember how to do all those things regardless of how long it’s been since you tried riding each.  MS is constantly called the “Monster” for good reason.  There is no cure for MS and it leaves permanent damage everywhere it travels.

I’ll be going over the disease in a self-documentation of what my symptoms are and the various treatments that I have been trying over the years.  I’m still learning more and more about my disease as well as being aware of how these symptoms have effected myself physically, emotionally and mentally.

I hope you enjoy my MS and Me serious.

I will post the video on my YouTube channel under: StilettoSupermom

Off we go…..

Stiletto Vlogs 06/03/17 Farmer’s Market

This is  one of my favourite things to do in my surroundings.  We have a fabulous fresh Farmer’s Market close by and I just love it.  Fresh fruits and veggies, meats, baked goods and the sound of vendors yelling out their upcoming sales is like music to my ears.  I even had a chance to look through all the furniture that I will be decorating my house with.

I stocked up in meats, bought some amazingly fresh butter and raspberry cream tarts and smoked mackerel.  OMG I love this so much, it could be my childhood upbringing when my parents other family friends would get together have potluck dinners, there was always BBQd fish somewhere among the sea of Filipino foods.  I decided that I want to share that same kind of traditions with my children.

I hope you enjoy the video of the travel to the Farmer’s Market!

More to come..

Amazed!

It’s amazing how many times I am presented with a challenge, be it personal or professional, all seems the same when I am now happy.  I was presented with the opportunity to share my happiness and the events that lead me to where I am.  I owe my success to everyone who has lead me up to this point.  Good and bad every event has been a teachable moment of self preservation.

Lately, I’ve been waking up early with a smile on my face.  I don’t think I’m completely a morning person yet lol that’s still a challenge, but every day gets easier.  Spring has reached my corner of Canada and I’ve been opening my windows every day listening to the quiet of my neighbourhood.  The tree outside my window is starting to bud, the snow has melted away and my winter coat has been living in the closet for the past week.

Plans are all on track and I’m ready to pick up some speed.

Hope you’re all having a fabulous week!  Keep your head up things always get better!

Live shows and fun things

I found some footage from my Canada Day (July 1, 2016) pre-show, so I wanted to share how I get ready for a live podcast and filming day.

I chose to change up my look with a custom wig from XtraWaves.  It is 22 inches long and I absolutely love it.  I have over processed my natural hair with bleaching and colouring so I endure a lot of frizziness and dryness, but I still want the option to change up my look without having my hair fall out lol.  Wigs it is!!

I love being on podcasts and live-streaming, but a gal needs work to get camera ready.  Enjoy my quick video and check in for more of my fashion fun.

Cheers!
