Lil Man’s Operation

IMG_0002

Nothing can humble a parent more than when they require an operation.  Although it was considered “minor” the powerless feeling was so overwhelming when they wheeled him out of the room in a steel crib that resembled an animal cage.

The newest hospital improvement is now a random number attached to the patient’s name.  The waiting room has a huge monitor to watch and track the patient’s whereabouts.  It’s a lot like the airport monitors where one searches through to look for their flight number.  He stared at me with his great big eyes and it took everything I had to not breakdown and cry.

The whole hospital visit took about 5 hours.

It took about 3 days for the pain to finally subside and his appetite has finally come back.  I’ve been awake on 24hour on-call nurse duties so, I’m happy that he’s back to his   sleep schedule.

Now that my son is healing, I’ve  been able to film and edit so you will be seeing much more of the video projects I’ve been working on as well as my radio show shenanigans.

An interesting start

IMG_8531It’s 2015 and with it came the cold weather front complete with blizzards and my favourite… cancelling of school buses.  Being Canadian, I know that a green Christmas equals Jack Frost following quickly behind dusting my corner of the world with frozen water everywhere.  It doesn’t mean I hate the winter or the snow, it’s just that it creates so much work.  For example, if you don’t shovel your walkways, the mail won’t be delivered; you buy a nice pair of boots, but if you don’t clean them off, they will be eaten by the street salt and sand; the floors in every public place you go to is sopping with water and dirt.. to name a few.

What I do love about winter is when the winds are calm and great big fat snowflakes lightly float from the sky.  Currently, we’ve received a huge drop of winter and everything is so white you don’t know where the roads and sidewalks end and begin.

There is no shortage of people coming by offering to shovel my driveway which is always a great thing.  Fortunately, my boys enjoy shovelling as they kick snow at each other.  😀

Yes, I am slightly hibernating, sipping my coffee, watching The Office episodes while doing some crafts.  I guess I shouldn’t complain too much about my life right now lol.

I hope everyone is having a great 2015 start!

Much love to you all and be safe out there in the tundra!

Holiday Preparations and New Year plans

122314

The Christmas shopping is complete and I’ve wrapped all my presents…of course I did manage to forget some key elements to my Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow.. but at least I did the most tedious stuff.

I love the Christmas holidays, despite some mixed emotions with the kids playing video games and listening to music at a nightclub level.  I love decorating and making my tree as filled with eye candy as well as real candy.  I did manage to miss my Aunt’s annual Christmas dinner.  It kind of sucked but I’ve been fighting an awful cough and fever as well as taking care of my lil 2 year old with his cold.  It’s been 24/7 Children’s Advil and Adult Advil dosages for me and the little one.  I really hope he, at least, gets better for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to enjoy his presents.

Spending some forced sick time in bed, I managed to think about my goals for the upcoming new year.  I definitely need to see my twin in Texas and I’ve been thinking very seriously about searching for a new family member…

I’ll fill you in when I finally decide. 😉

I hope everyone else is having a great Holiday and that we all remember our fellow peeps who struggle around this time of year.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Much love to you all 🙂

New shows, products and outlook for the future

IMG_6039

After revamping our radio show (Talk Loud Radio) I’ve been keeping myself busy and loving every minute of it!  It takes a lot of background work to make things come together, so it’s nice to see the product of my hard work.  It’s true, what they say, when it’s something you love it’s the best kind of work.

Halloween weekend has come and gone but there are still remnants of candy wrappers and Halloween movies playing all day.  I threw a Halloween party for my kids and my nephews (as this is our favourite time of year) calling it The Carnage and they loved it.  We played Metallica all night which scared some of our trick or treaters lol.  My MardiGras Madness costume and the faces of classic Halloween slasher movie characters surrounding my table, there were last minute preparations that I needed to do for the table decorations to the food to getting the candy.

IMG_6005I was given this mask from my mother a few years ago and they were part of my decorations in my dressing room.  Being so busy trying to get my kids costumes together meant that I had to make due with what I had.  The best part was that I live by a fabulously huge thrift store which always has the best costumes and accessories even at last minute.  I purchased 6 strands of mardi gras beaded necklaces for less than $5 in total, the feathered boa and a nice maxi dress which had all the bright colours I was looking for.  I dusted on some black eyeshadow around my eyes to make the mask look a little more spooky.  My total cost for my costume was under $20…and the dress, well I love it and will probably use it around the house and next summer.

IMG_5975I saw the above idea online and I knew I had to recreate it.  I purchased the table cloth for $5 at the thrift store and bought a few tubes of fake blood, dripping and spreading it around to give the effect of a slashed victim.  Finding old men’s pants and shirts was perfect for creating my carcass.  I wanted as many finger foods as possible to make my Carnage theme come to life.  I got the tins from Dollarama (1 pack of 3 for $1) and filled them with chicken wings (chopped bones), large Costco sized hot dogs (intestines) a couple of racks of pork ribs (human ribs), white rice (maggots) and a bowl of caesar salad (regurgitated greens, not shown).  I set the oven at 450 degrees and let the meat cook covered in foil and in my homemade sauces.  During the last 5-10 mins of cooking time, I set my oven to broil and charred the meat.  The results were just awesome!

IMG_5995I had Jason from Friday the 13th, a serial killer, an escaped Asylum patient, Mike Myers from Halloween, Magenta from Rocky Horror Picture Show,  a pirate and Steve from the game Minecraft, complete with their weapons, at my table ready for my Carnage feast.  Thanks to Dollarama, I didn’t have to wash any plates or utensils as we went plastic! lol  My feast and all the activities had the kids hyper but they were finally all asleep by 11pm.

Since my nephews and a few of my son’s friends slept over, I carried my theme on for breakfast.

IMG_6023For the older kids who woke up a little later I prepared my table this way

IMG_6025Costco was my best friend for all the food I offered.

For lunch we had leftover chicken wings and ribs which helped fill the kids bellies and I believe it helped prevent a lot of stomach aches from all the candy the kids were sneaking.

With Halloween being finished, I found myself needing some “me” time.  I booked an appointment at the MAC store in the shopping mall to get a makeover.  For those that aren’t aware, if you purchase at least $50 worth of product from MAC your makeover is complimentary.  My makeup artist had over 5 years experience and it was nice to talk “shop” with her about the different products I loved and used.  I asked her for a dramatic purple evening look with false lashes that would also be photo friendly.  She delivered the look fantastically!  I plan to hire her again for upcoming projects too.  Here’s what she came up with:

IMG_6066

I purchased the lashes (#36), the eyeshadow palette she used and the lipgloss which were, luckily, part of the newly released Keepsake Collection they had launched towards the end of October.  The several purple shades really made my eyes look stunning and I was more than impressed.  The packaging of this collection is so gorgeous.  It has that old world feel with a pendant piece on the top of the packaging it also doubles up as a decoration for my makeup table.

IMG_6046

I went out for a sushi dinner with one of my best friends and we had a great time catching up, then we jetted home so I could do an evening radio show with Princess Stepford.

This was my favourite weekend of the year, full of fun and laughter and ending with some “me” time.  It’s now Sunday afternoon and it’s a lazy one.  The house is cleaned and recovered from the Carnage feast, laundry is in the washer and the kids are getting their school backpacks together.  I will most likely be trying different looks with my new makeup and just relax.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and I look forward to sharing more of my journey with you all.

Much love to you!

More hurdles…oh well!

Late Spring 2014

The weather here in Canada is finally starting to get warmer and I’ve been enjoying the sun.  I love waking up in the morning, having a nice warm cup of coffee or tea as I sit and listen to the nature around me.  What’s so great about my neighbourhood is how quiet it is in the A.M.  I’m far enough away from the noise of the morning traffic… although the birds in all their Spring glory sometimes drive me a little crazy.

I’ve had to arrange and rearrange my plans due to the fact that my lovely father has decided to surprise me with his arrival from the Philippines.  It has, yet again, delayed my plans.  I’m frustrated, but I know that a couple days of a delay won’t be so bad.

I was supposed to be on a plane to Chicago tomorrow morning, but since my dad will be here at 3 am, I had to cancel my flight and my hotel… such a bummer.

I will be rebooking my trip next week and will be on my way!  I’m definitely getting anxious to travel, it’s been too long and I’ve got places to go and people to see! 😉

I hope you all had a great weekend and to my American friends I wish you all a very happy Memorial Day! 😀

Easter Weekend Begins…

Today begins the Easter Weekend.  Thankfully , the sun is shining and it is warm enough to do some walking.  After my 9 year old and my 5 year old were done eating their after school snack of apples; I brought out my packs of stickers and construction paper and told them to make some pages, hats, or whatever they wanted.  They loved the idea of making crowns and hats.  The house is so quiet and I actually have time to write and work..as well as repaint my nails.

Easter Nails

I filed and shaped my nails and I came up with a pastel purple, pink and green look.

On my left hand I painted OPI’s Lucky Lucky Lavender with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in no, 540 Jaded on the ring finger.  On my right hand, I put the same lavender colour, but I used OPI’s If You Moust You Moust on the ring finger.  I’ll be going to my brother’s house for Easter this year.  I don’t have a clue what I’m going to wear but I’m going to be rocking these nails out.  It’s traditional for all of the women in our family to sit down after dinner and paint our nails, chat and watch movies while sipping our coffees or teas.  I know my sis inlaw will expect me to bring my nail polish.

I also bought these Sharpie 80’s Glam markers from Staples on sale for $15.00…

supplies

…and from Michael’s Craft Store I bought these adhesive ribbons that  for $9.99 with their 40% off sale.

I was clearing out my studio for some shelving and supply storage and I came to my picture box.  Most of the photos had taken some years of abuse from packing and unpacking.  Since everything is digital, I figured I’d seriously focus on getting these into scrapbooks before they get completely destroyed.  So far, it’s been very relaxing going through my old photos of the kids.  The best part is my brother left all his things with me on various moves.  From his paintings to his old decorations from his old place.  I came across his old pictures from when he was sporting around long hair, driving a Tracker and Keanu Reeves was the latest girl-craze.  I’m putting a page together for him which will be hilarious because I’m sure he’s completely forgotten about these.

I’m looking forward to this weekend with my kids and my family…  bring it on Easter! 🙂

Refreshed and Renewed!

I just returned from my spa retreat weekend. It was a century mansion that was eventually turned into an Inn, now it has a spa. The quality of the food was amazing and although there was still snow on the ground, I walked the gravel trails and watched some wildlife around the property.  At one point a flock of geese came right above my head squawking and it scared the crap out of me, but I survived!  That was a very close call though.  I ended the weekend with an hour long massage and it helped me relax, rejuvenate and it gave me a calmer outlook on what is up and coming.

I will be going back to my phone store for the third time for my iPhone upgrade.  Every time I go there, they have to call to their offices, as it turns out nothing gets processed during the weekend so there is all this red tape and plan changes they keep putting on and of course, that will be one of the first things I’ll have to deal with.  I’m excited to start booking some flights and activities for my Texas trip at the end of the month.  I can’t wait to get on the road again, I’ve got that travel bug, again!

I did miss my babies terribly, that’s probably the hardest thing about coming home.  I didn’t realize how much I missed my kids until I was surrounded with their hugs.  I couldn’t stop kissing my 1½ year old. I missed my new pup too, but I was happy to see that his anxiety levels are not as bad as when he first started living with me. I couldn’t ask for a better weekend.

Here are some pics of some of the decorations and architecture of this mansion, simply stunning!
