This week has been filled with some challenging events but it’s great to know I got through it and I’m going to use this weekend to refresh for the upcoming week. I have an upcoming weekend, yet again, filled with appointments and meetings. In one way, it’s great to have something to look forward to so I guess there’s that lol.
I hope everyone is having a safe and fabulously fun and relaxing weekend! 🙂
I don’t know about everyone else, but I certainly feel like I have been insanely busy since the beginning of December! Today marks my son’s 14th birthday and we just finished a weekend birthday celebration with family. I’m exhausted, to put it mildly, with getting the kids back to their school routines, keeping track of schedules and trying to organize my own projects, I feel like I’m treading water. 2015 is in full swing with birthday line ups quickly coming up. I’ll be celebrating at least one birthday every month for the rest of the year.
Birthdays and trips to plan, budgeting and purchasing food seems to be my norm these days. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love celebrating birthdays and such I just feel like I haven’t been able to come up for air. Being a mom of 6 and having them all under one roof is definitely a balancing act, maintaining relationships with each one as well as with extended family and friends sometimes leaves me completely exhausted.
At times like these I opt to retreat to my studio, listen to some R & B music (Anita Baker and Mary J. Blige 😀 ) give myself a mani/pedi and try to calm and clear my mind. I scroll through destination getaways and dream about being on white sand beaches enjoying the sun.
I watch through my window as the fluffy snow floats down and I am reminded how this tension will soon pass. I exhale my stress and focus on getting through my lists while keeping myself sane! Whew!
It’s 2015 and with it came the cold weather front complete with blizzards and my favourite… cancelling of school buses. Being Canadian, I know that a green Christmas equals Jack Frost following quickly behind dusting my corner of the world with frozen water everywhere. It doesn’t mean I hate the winter or the snow, it’s just that it creates so much work. For example, if you don’t shovel your walkways, the mail won’t be delivered; you buy a nice pair of boots, but if you don’t clean them off, they will be eaten by the street salt and sand; the floors in every public place you go to is sopping with water and dirt.. to name a few.
What I do love about winter is when the winds are calm and great big fat snowflakes lightly float from the sky. Currently, we’ve received a huge drop of winter and everything is so white you don’t know where the roads and sidewalks end and begin.
There is no shortage of people coming by offering to shovel my driveway which is always a great thing. Fortunately, my boys enjoy shovelling as they kick snow at each other. 😀
Yes, I am slightly hibernating, sipping my coffee, watching The Office episodes while doing some crafts. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much about my life right now lol.
I hope everyone is having a great 2015 start!
Much love to you all and be safe out there in the tundra!
Winter is in full effect and with that comes the added bonus of colds, viruses and flus, the winter months freak me out! I can’t just open a window and let fresh air in without freezing my toes off which is a total bummer. Winter has done its job at putting all the trees and plants in hibernation and has forced me to fire up my furnace. Now that the dry heat is circulating throughout the house I knew it would cause problems with my kids. My furnace has a humidifier attachment, but it needs to be replaced so, my alternative was to go out and find me a new humidifier.
I went to Walmart and found the humidifier display in the Household department and there were a ton to choose from. Prices ranged from $20-$169. I chose the Sunbeam Warm Mist Filter Free Humidifier:
It has 2 settings (low to high humidity)and an “off” option; a small medicine tray by the vent; a clear water container; it can run all night and day; and it has no filter!
I have owned a few humidifiers over the years and I can honestly say I am in an extreme dislike for humidifiers with filters! They just end up so gross and there’s so much maintenance and cleaning with that extra step. Being a mom of 6, I don’t want to have to run to the store to constantly replace the filter… it’s just something I’m not into, so the no filter option was a major selling point to me. My 2 year old had a fever and a dry cough around the same time I bought the humidifier and I am proud to report he’s been having some great sleeps at night and is finally over his cold.
If you’re in need of a good simple humidifier try this one out. It was $34.96CAD at Walmart which is nice on the budget, has a great output and is surprisingly quiet.
On that note, I’m off to do some Christmas shopping… 😀
I’ve been working hard on my side projects and tomorrow is my deadline. Tonight and all day tomorrow will be me, hard at work trying to coordinate. The last few days I took some time to reorganize my projects and so far the routine is working well for my kids and me. I can’t really get a lot done during the day, due to a curious little toddler getting into everything, but my evenings have been filled with writing and ideas…well, that and Netflix.
Yesterday, I found myself all worked up watching River Monsters Seasons 1-3. I’m not quite done the 2nd season yet, but I’m determined to get them all watched. I guess I’m weird that way. Once I get interested on the topics I usually spend days watching and researching what I’m watching. I’m not good with navigation, but I sure can put live bait on a hook!
It’s supposed to get extra cold again, as per typical Canadian winter, and I’m procrastinating writing on this blog post because I know I’m literally going to have to enter this bitter coldness. I’m complaining a little, only because I really want a Starbucks…and they don’t deliver…dammit!
It’s possible to love this winter weather…isn’t it?!
