It’s time for the yearly hype over the new iPhone, we are now on version 8. I have a different strategy for staying in the phone game.
I used to work in a computer store, which sold cellphones too. Fido was a huge trend at the time and Bell was considered high end. The networks have evolved completely and so was the hardware. As you may already know. I am a gadget girl you can even say I’m a bit of a electronics junkie. The electronics game is fast paced and can cost you quite a bit of money.
I never get the first models that come out for example, the iPhone 8 will be released in a couple of weeks, I buy the iPhone 7. I get more bonuses, promotions and incentives. In general, more options for less money.
If there’s a major change in design and features of electronics (like a Sony PlayStation) I wait for a year for the bugs and glitches to be fixed before I buy it.
For apps, there are so many to choose from. I try as many apps as I can. Apps like social media, photo and video, filters, adding keyboards, marketing, business, payments, etc I have found so many great apps from trying all the newest available in the AppStore.
I recently bought an iPhone 7. 7 is my favourite number so I predictively had to get it. I agonized about the 7 or the 7 Plus for months. For women who understand, I wanted to get a bigger phone so I could type easier with long nails. I know, it’s boujee but whatevs I like to have nice things. I need to be reachable at all times for my children emergencies or doctor appointments..etc
Aside from the usual kerfuffle with carrier activations and plans, I couldn’t be happier. So far so good, my relationship with my phone is growing. Lol I know I’m weird.
If you’ve been following me here or on social media, you’re aware of my experiences with wax hair removal. I bought my first wax warmer about 6 years ago and at one time I even tried waxing my bikini line… I suggest that you NEVER do that, it freakin hurts.. go to a professional for that job, for real! I still wax myself, but mostly underarms and occasionally on my legs.
Spring is here and many of us Canadian gals are shedding our winter leg hairs and getting ourselves ready for the time sensitive spring and summer. Although waxing my legs is fabulous, it takes a lot longer than a quick shave in the shower. In my thinking, disposable razors are expensive and when you have a whole house full of boys, two of which already shave, it was literally making me feel like I was actually throwing out money. Off to Walmart I went…
After going through a few electric razors, Conair for her (link shows newer model) was the only one that didn’t have a warning saying “Some materials in this product are not approved in the state of California” Like, what the heck does that mean? Anyway, I purchased it to see if it could replace disposable razors in both price and ability to de-hair my legs.
It comes with a base for recharging, a blade cover and two bikini comb guides (razor guards). This shaver can be used in wet and dry conditions which is perfect for what I need. First, I tried it on my dry legs, after getting used to the whole shaving experience my legs were smooth and hair free. A week later, with hair regrowth, I decided to take my lil gal into the shower with some EOS shaving cream (review coming soon) and tried it out. I was super impressed! It glided over my legs and although I had shaving cream it didn’t skip nor shut off.
Overall, this is a great gadget to have and it’s small enough to be travel friendly. I don’t think I’ll give up on waxing, but this is great for those days where I’m NOT so timing friendly.
My latest travel to NYC was full of adventure and high energy! I didn’t expect to love New York as much as I do now.
My hometown is 2 hours away from the Detroit airport which made for an early start to my trip at 1:00am early Thursday morning. The shuttle bus was on time and filled with 10 passengers. Out of 10 travellers I managed to hold up entire bus up at the border trying to explain what Meerkat (@AppMeerkat) was. The officer wanted to know how I met my friends and what I was doing with the live streaming. It was probably the most drilling set of questions I’ve had to answer but on top of that, the officer looked up my website! (He may be reading now, so HELLO! 🙂 Mr. Custom’sOfficer!) He was very professional and he thanked me for giving him my information. It was a little awkward on the bus after that, but we made it through.
My 8am flight took off and arrived on time at 10am. Right from the time I collected my bags and exited the airplane I was already pumped full of excitement! It was amazing to see Herbie (@HerbieMerrin) and Betsy (@BetsyBoop35) in real life and we even had time to stop off and see Ricky (@rickysanquiche) before we got to meet up with Nick (@dagadgetguy) for our Olive Garden dinner. I’m still proud to boast that I out ate all three of them and cleared my plate like a true Foody and I cleared the plate again at Applebee’s haha.
I took in all the sights and the action on the streets. Be it by car, bicycle or by foot, the only speed that New Yorkers know is FAST! With Herbie’s driving skills and Betsy’s sass, I quickly felt safe and at home among the Big Apple dwellers.
One of the favourite places I visited was the Fifth Avenue Apple Store
The Apple Store was complete with a clear glass elevator that Nick and I could not resist so we took the elevator up from the enormous underground store.
This was the BEST first day of vacation!! 😀
The couple of days were spent shopping, laughter and great food..
I had an unforgettable time with friends that now feel more like family than anything else. We all bonded in a way that would not have been possible without Meerkat and the magic of the internet.
I miss my dear friends and my Brooklyn home away from home.. but, I will be back…
Much love everyone hope you all have a great weekend! 😉
Midsummer is in full swing and I’m not only feeling the heat but my days have been filled with major changes in my lifestyle choices and a new beginning into a very exciting future!
A couple months ago, I made some serious lifestyle changes which not only included a lot of soul searching, but also required me to move into a new home, furnish it and put my business and travel plans into “full speed”. In the midst of a tough situation, I managed to find my zen in a beautiful new home complete with everything I could ever hope for, the catch is that I have to furnish the entire thing! Although, like many, I love to decorate and shop for my home I have to admit after almost 2 months of getting things organized and moved in I am EXHAUSTED!
Not only am I shopping for the house, but with September fast approaching I’ve been spending my last couple days getting the kids ready for their new schools, new clothing and appointments. Yes..I still use my planner on a daily basis and it has been a lifesaver.
The whole transition into a new life may come with some hiccups, but I take each hiccup with a proverbial drink of positive water and keep on moving towards my goals. Due to the move, all my traveling plans were put on hold, so it’s time for this girl to pack her travel bag and get some much needed relaxation.
Being on Meerkat ( @AppMeerkat ) has introduced me to some amazing business contacts which have turned into some great friends. After almost 5 months, I finally get to meet and hang out with some of my favourite people in New York! My tickets are booked and now all I have to do is get packing! My travel clothes are lined up and my itinerary has been finalized. It will be an epic trip! 😀
Much love to all, I hope your summer has been a great one, too! I’ll update you all soon!
As most know, I’ve been involved in social media from way back in the ICQ days when chat rooms were the rage. I remember when internet was finally available to us and like most “kids” we relished in the information highway, we met people and for some of us, we got ourselves kicked out of chat rooms for profanity. lol
With the birth of Facebook and Twitter I found myself lost and admittedly addicted to the interactions online. Facebook became a place for my family and Twitter became a place for.. Me!
The introductions to new technology and gadgets brought more of my online world into my life. Yes, the whole internet/gadget mix can be extremely distracting, but what I have found more of is that it has opened more doors for my career and have introduced me to some of the greatest people I could meet without even leaving my house.
Now, in my last radio show, I touched on the fact that nudity and internet porn is here and it is here to stay. Strong opinions of sex online and whether it should be recognized are prevalent. The debate whether to blame the naked person or the viewer is heavily weighted on both sides.
Knowing that the risqué sexual side of the internet is here to stay, I find myself on the fence about the whole debate in itself. Being an independent woman, I have the freedom to display myself or not, that being said, when it comes to the internet and let’s say my Instagram account, I don’t have control over who sees my pictures and what they do with them. Now, with the introduction to YouTube videos and live streaming, we again have been subjected to the dilemma of nudity and others’ sexual escapades. There are many apps and sites where one can be sexual and even get paid for it and pay to see it. I wonder whether to blame the nudity or the person watching it.
The debate and the controversy will continue and as a mother, I can educate my children, monitor what they do online and be aware.
The last few days have been filled with all kinds of action with the kids’ schedule and with my own. My projects are all coming into fruition and I am loving every minute.
Due to the recent arrival of Meerkat into my life I’ve been enjoying the interactions and the pace of the social app. I have to admit it has steered me far from my usual online social networking apps for a bit, but I’m fine tuning my schedule constantly. I’ve met so many amazing people over the last few weeks that I can’t help but be completely addicted.
I did an experimental #20ToppingPizzaChallenge which I concocted with the help of my viewers. They chose the ingredients and I put it together and ate it! I live streamed the entire process and ate it in front of my audience as well as recorded it on my radio show.
It tasted exactly like it looks and it reminded me of the floor of a wild house party from my partying days. I managed to eat a rather large piece and yes my stomach totally hurt after. There are a ton of screenshots and Vines of the whole thing, my facial expressions were hilarious.
My next mission is to complete another Meerkat Marathon where I stay up for at least 26 hours to beat my previous record of 25 hours of live streaming. I will not sleep throughout the whole 26 hours so I’m hoping I will be joined by my frequent viewers to help keep me awake. I’m already exhausted just thinking of it, however I love to entertain and hanging out with some great personalities online. Much like my MeerkatPizza above, the people who watch me are a mixtape of flavours, from sweet to awkwardly uncomfortable. We are all watching each other and although it is a voyeur’s dream, I believe Meerkat and other live streaming apps have changed the online game completely and I am loving the changes!
This Saturday weather has been fabulous and I have the windows and curtains open, which translates to perfect nap time ambiance. 😀
I’ve weathered the storm of the Easter weekend unscathed. I had a huge turkey dinner with all the fixings and also several desserts, at my brother’s house. The kids played Easter Egg cracking games and ran around with their cousins. I’m really happy we decided to have it on Saturday instead of the traditional Easter Sunday. It gives me a bit of extra time to chill out and catch up on some need-to-do laundry.
About a week ago I discovered a new app; now if you know me, you will know that I’m always looking for some cool apps and games for my phone and iPad; well, the app is called Meerkat. It’s available of all IOS users (Android version to come), but you can watch live streaming on your computer. Meerkat is a new social networking app which allows you to watch people and events through live video streaming. Your viewers respond to you through their Twitter accounts. I held 2 Meerkat Marathons to test the app. I ran one 20hr stream and another 24hr stream during the first 2 days and Meerkat was connected and going strong. I have also been able to meet new indie artists and great new friends. It’s great to know that I can reach out and interact with my Twitter peeps as well as help others. I am currently streaming every day which means I’ve gotta be somewhat camera friendly at least once a day haha. This is a great tool for vloggers, businesses, independent work, etc. It’s safe to say I have a new addiction.
I hope you are all having a great weekend and hit me up if you see me on Meerkat!
I’m sending out a special thank you to Mr. O for answering my question about an upcoming 18 hour flight. Things can get boring and there isn’t much room to really stretch out. He gave me some great tips on how to prepare for a lengthy stay on the plane. I’m kind of on the fence about this upcoming trip, nothing is in stone yet there’s still a 50% chance I’ll be staying on my half of the world. It is nice to know that I have geared up on some advice to prepare for a whole 18 hour trip.
Winter is in full effect and with that comes the added bonus of colds, viruses and flus, the winter months freak me out! I can’t just open a window and let fresh air in without freezing my toes off which is a total bummer. Winter has done its job at putting all the trees and plants in hibernation and has forced me to fire up my furnace. Now that the dry heat is circulating throughout the house I knew it would cause problems with my kids. My furnace has a humidifier attachment, but it needs to be replaced so, my alternative was to go out and find me a new humidifier.
I went to Walmart and found the humidifier display in the Household department and there were a ton to choose from. Prices ranged from $20-$169. I chose the Sunbeam Warm Mist Filter Free Humidifier:
It has 2 settings (low to high humidity)and an “off” option; a small medicine tray by the vent; a clear water container; it can run all night and day; and it has no filter!
I have owned a few humidifiers over the years and I can honestly say I am in an extreme dislike for humidifiers with filters! They just end up so gross and there’s so much maintenance and cleaning with that extra step. Being a mom of 6, I don’t want to have to run to the store to constantly replace the filter… it’s just something I’m not into, so the no filter option was a major selling point to me. My 2 year old had a fever and a dry cough around the same time I bought the humidifier and I am proud to report he’s been having some great sleeps at night and is finally over his cold.
If you’re in need of a good simple humidifier try this one out. It was $34.96CAD at Walmart which is nice on the budget, has a great output and is surprisingly quiet.
On that note, I’m off to do some Christmas shopping… 😀
The recent Ebola threat has forced me to reschedule my traveling plans to the United States, if you know me, you know that I am completely germaphobic and carry handsanitizers in each purse. On that note, I’ve decided to work on my Canada travels until this ebola scare is over.
My “twin” @PrincessStepfrd and I have been working diligently for our upcoming show this Friday. We are so excited and have a lot more great interviews and shenanigans planned. With all our planned shows comes a requirement to purchase new equipment…well more of an option than a requirement… lol
I purchased the iPad mini with Retina Display, I already have an iPad, but my children have decided to use it for their gaming needs.
I love the size of my new iPad mini it fits perfectly in my purse and is great for keeping me mobile. I’ve been able to multitask a lot easier and can save my notes directly to it while I write on my laptop. I’m sure I haven’t used the iPad mini to its true potential, so I will have to put my nerd cap on and figure it out.
I also received my Boostcase sleeve a lot sooner than I thought. Like most gadgets, things happen, in this situation, my case wouldn’t charge nor recognize my phone. I emailed the company (Boostcase) and they asked me to send a picture of the charge input. They reviewed it and were extremely helpful. I sent my Boostcase in to their repair department as it was still covered under Boostcase’s warranty. They sent me an email confirming they would send me a new one and it came within a week! I was not only relieved to finally get my extra lil power gadget back, I really need it! Being on my phone and getting things accomplished I realized how much I actually use it.
During my last Target visit I found some Boostcase accessories on clearance so of course I got new clothes for my phone…again.. One has a detachable pouch which I use for my cash and coins (left) and the white case (right)…well I just like it 😀
Time to get to work surrounded by my gadgets…I hope you all are having a fabulous day!
