Movie Review: The Founder

This is a great rags-to-riches story. A lot of people don’t know that the McDonalds corporation is actually based on realty deals and land purchases. The movie takes you on a journey through the ups and downs of growing a business.

There are twists and turns that organically develop emotionally with family and friendships. Ruthless business decisions are aggressively made showing the destruction of a lot of relationships. I love business development it’s exciting and fun yet filled with some hard decisions.

They say business is like swimming with sharks, it could be true in many cases, however in my years of diving in and out of corporate life things always even itself out.

Everything that crumbles will be rebuilt. Everything wrong will be made right. Things may seem bleak and even cutthroat but maybe we have to be challenged in order to push ourselves passed the tough times.

Review: Fast and Furious 8

et00041155_20-04-2016_04-42-40

Most people I hear were buzzing about Fast & Furious 8, some positive and some negative.  I’ve heard people say “Oh here we go… another Fast & Furious movie” followed by rolling eyes.  However, I’m a huge action movie fan and I was anticipating a great action movie that included “The Rock” and Vin Diesel.

The story starts off with a great racing scene complete with almost hard to believe details, but I didn’t mind.  What’s a Fast & Furious movie without racing and cars blowing up all over the place. I have always loved the story line, my favourite being Tokyo Drift.  Joined by villainess Charlize Theron, in this movie, it had all the twist and turns of a race track.

The story was that of betrayal and involved a lot of history.  I loved that the villain was a woman and the story takes you all the way to the arctic.  Many reviews have not been favourable but I happen to love the cheesiness and the unbelievable events that happen. It’s hard to be cynical when I think about Alien, Commando, even the latest great saga of The Game of Thrones.

If you like movies like Mission Impossible and the 007 movies, you will enjoy this movie. For me, it was nonstop action and I was locked onto that screen.  I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves good ol’ fashion action sprinkled with humour and drama.

I’d love for you to let me know your thoughts after you watch it.

Happy movie watching

Review: Kong Skull Island

Kong Skull Island

I’ve loved and hated many movie remakes so when I found out that they were releasing a new King Kong movie I was, naturally, I was curious.  I admit I was skeptical as I’ve seen the King Kong remakes and have been thoroughly disappointed.. until I watched this movie.  Right from the start this movie held my attention.  If you’re into action and enjoy the whole Man vs Beast conflict narrative this is the movie to watch.

Unlike most remakes, where they stick very close to the original story, this new Kong movie direction is the most intriguing.  Instead of jumping right into the destruction of New York City, this movie takes you to a very gritty past of Kong.  I’ve always wondered why Kong was so huge.  Was it gamma rays? Mutation? etc.  they all crossed my mind, but this direction is definitely my favourite.

In this new version, it takes us right into the jungle of 1973 where everything is gigantic and terrifying.  It took me back to the excitement of the Jurassic Park series The action from Kong taking on a giant squid to fighting the weirdest looking monster, named “Skull Crawlers” I still don’t know what the heck it was, but it was vicious to say the least.

The story then leads us to an action packed ending where I felt a series coming up.  I am excited about it and the change has been long awaited one.  Kong is a great classic monster along with Godzilla and this is a great way to explain a lot of the questions I have always wondered.

Kong Skull Island, with the help of CGI (computer-generated imagery), brings out a refreshing direction.  I’m anticipating where the writers will take us in the future of cinema eye candy.

Watch this movie and let me know what you think.

Review: Logan movie

loganmovie

If you are a fan of the X-Men then you will absolutely love this movie! Yes, my brother collected almost all the Wolverine comics and he’d let me read them.  I was hooked by the storylines.  The whole mutant alliance is an amazing one and this whole movie kept it inline with the story of Logan, I was also proud that he is Canadian.

I’ll try not to ruin the whole movie but from the trailers you know that a girl was involved.  The action in this movie was nonstop and I felt a very strong relationship which was a perfect blend of new and old X-Men.

If you’re interested in watching this be prepared to go on a journey full of hurdles.  I will watch this movie over and over.. it’s THAT good.

If you’re looking for a Friday Flick or something to watch this weekend, I would totally recommend this movie.  For those Action movie watchers, this movie will not disappoint you.

Let me know what you think!

Movie Review: Split

splitmovie

I was hearing and reading quite a bit of reviews regarding this movie.  I haven’t watched any of the trailers for this movie and it was a good thing.  I am all for psychological thrillers, however I was disappointed at how predictable it was.  I’m going to totally spoil this movie so if you haven’t watched it yet.. stop reading this post right now.

Like I said I love scary movies filled with gore, however when it comes to psychological thrillers things have to make sense to me.  I didn’t understand why he kidnapped these girls with no plan.  It didn’t make any sense why they were held.  I mean, honestly I thought that was the weakest and one of the important details off the whole plot.  There was no extortion of money, no deviant motive.. it didn’t make any sense.  Now, granted James McAvoy did an excellent job portraying each of his personalities, it was sadly predictable and didn’t keep my attention for a lot of the movie.

I won’t be watching this movie again, but now I know their advertising team did a great job .  lol

Movie Monday – As Above So Below

I have been running around getting organized for Christmas.  Last Saturday was spent celebrating birthdays, food, family and friends.  I’ve got a lot of “F’s” in my life and I am loving it!

By Sunday night I was ready for a calm evening watching a movie.  Scrolling through all the recent additions, I came across the movie As Above So Below.

This movie contained every one of my fears:  Claustrophobia; Phasmophobia; and Coulrophobia.. that’s a lot of phobias in one movie.  I screamed and I literally hid under my pillow watching it.  I was terrified!  I was in fetal position by the time it was finished.

In short, it was a great horror-thriller movie with great action and realistic moments that I was screaming at the television.  I highly recommend watching this movie if you have anything close to the phobias I have.

Enjoy!
