I’ve loved and hated many movie remakes so when I found out that they were releasing a new King Kong movie I was, naturally, I was curious. I admit I was skeptical as I’ve seen the King Kong remakes and have been thoroughly disappointed.. until I watched this movie. Right from the start this movie held my attention. If you’re into action and enjoy the whole Man vs Beast conflict narrative this is the movie to watch.
Unlike most remakes, where they stick very close to the original story, this new Kong movie direction is the most intriguing. Instead of jumping right into the destruction of New York City, this movie takes you to a very gritty past of Kong. I’ve always wondered why Kong was so huge. Was it gamma rays? Mutation? etc. they all crossed my mind, but this direction is definitely my favourite.
In this new version, it takes us right into the jungle of 1973 where everything is gigantic and terrifying. It took me back to the excitement of the Jurassic Park series The action from Kong taking on a giant squid to fighting the weirdest looking monster, named “Skull Crawlers” I still don’t know what the heck it was, but it was vicious to say the least.
The story then leads us to an action packed ending where I felt a series coming up. I am excited about it and the change has been long awaited one. Kong is a great classic monster along with Godzilla and this is a great way to explain a lot of the questions I have always wondered.
Kong Skull Island, with the help of CGI (computer-generated imagery), brings out a refreshing direction. I’m anticipating where the writers will take us in the future of cinema eye candy.
Watch this movie and let me know what you think.
