Life in Quarantine 2020: Staying Inspired

Spring Classics Collection

I’m sure that we are all getting anxious wanting to go outside at the first sign of spring.  In my place in the world, I’m still skeptical.  That being said, I’ve been finding creative ways to keep my children and myself busy indoors.  I received my birthday/Mother’s Day presents early ( a pasta maker and juicer kitchennaid attachments and a Nespresso machine ) so I’ve been enjoying them tremendously.  So far I have made linguini, spaghetti on the first round and homemade ramen noodles.  I must say that homemade ramen is WAY better than the prepackaged dehydrated kind.

On my other hobbies and pursuits, I’ve been learning lots about ball jointed doll making. I have yet to design and create my own so that is next on the list of things to self teach.

Doll making still has my heart and I have furthered even better ways to get my dolls out to so many more people that use them for therapy and to simply make them smile.  My son found all the family photo albums including some scrapbook ideas I had in storage.  We had fun looking through them so we decided to work on that project this week.  As much as this lockdown has disrupted our lives it has also allowed me to stay in the present.  I now know exactly where my scrapbook items are and there is no excuse for me not to complete them.  I think it will be fun for my youngest to actually get familiar of what a physical photograph is.

The most challenging thing for me to do lately is to remain inspired. To shake things up I found a couple iBooks to read.  It’s nice to read on the socials, texting, messaging.. but it is nice to take a break from the pace of the social media world and read a book that has more focus and direction.  lol as much as I love chatting with my online world, having a direction feels a lot more calming on my brain lately.  People are getting emotional so I’m trying to remain as positive as I can.

It’s easy to get sucked into the fears and panic of those that surround you but the most important thing is to be there for them.  Transition is hard for all of us.

I hope you are all having a peaceful week.

More to come be happy and be grateful always…

Much love,

Action and Progress

IMG_0001 2

You know those corny sayings that seem to clog the internet, you know, the ones where they are supposed to inspire you or uplift you?  I read those quotes and I find one common thread between them all and that is the moment I was reading them, I should have been moving on and taking the next step towards my goal.  As positive as they are, these are things we should be telling ourselves on a daily basis.  I’m a strong believer in self preservation for the sake of the quality of life that you really want.

I was doing research, making appointments, drafting plans… and I stopped myself and smiled.  In all my adulthood, 2017 has been the best I have had yet.  I used to do things here and there, not out of things I had to do but for things I felt I needed to do.  Going with the flow and letting go of this invisible control we all think we have.

Today, I started to notice how all the things I’ve been doing up to this point have come to fruition.  I used to get stressed out when I didn’t know what was going to happen after working so hard.  Now, I find myself smiling more and knowing that this whole journey was preparing me for something bigger than just what I love to do.  I’m on my way to fulfill that mission I gave to myself.

My new addiction… The art of letting go…

Over already?!

It's the Civic Holiday weekend and it feels like the summer months passed by so fast! I blame most of this on the weirdest weather I've seen in years! It would rain so hard it sounded like hail against my windows, thunderstorms at least once a week followed by extreme heat where I could hardly breathe. Although, I'd rather have this weather than the upcoming winter months.

The back-to-school supplies and clothing are in all the stores, I can almost hear my bank account cry for my school shopping days that are just around the corner. It will be an emotional school year for me as my last little pterodactyl will be leaving the nest to go to school. So far, he knows his numbers up to 10 and backwards, but he refuses to sing the alphabet song lol. Thanks to the iPad he does know what the letters are, but he just doesn't like the song. I'm guessing that he thinks the song is dumb, he rolls his eyes every time I ask him to sing it.

Lately, my days are filled with doll orders and event planning. It's a truly exciting time for me. I have found what I love in all aspects of my life from the kids, social life and now my artistry. They often say that when your personal life is good everything else around is chaos. I am living proof that the saying is NOT true. We all need to find the balance in our own lives or things get harder and harder to do. It's like the universe makes some things in our lives difficult in order to accept something better in our lives. "Out with the old, in with the new" has a deeper meaning than we think. This whole year has unraveled many important life choices for me. My family relationships have been stronger now than ever, financial security is finally here, reuniting with my childhood best friend, maintaining deeper relationships with my friends from all over my online world and forming new amazing friendships who have cleared my mind and settled my soul.

Yes, you can have it all, yes abundance is attainable. If you want these things, you have to release everything that you know is holding you back. It will seem so difficult to let go, but it will be worth it and those difficult moments you are experiencing right now, will be in your distant past. Right when you're about to give up hope is when you have to gather up as much strength as you have to get through the rough moments. You will see your end goals, not when YOU want to see it, but when you're ready to accept it.

Stiletto Vlogs 06/03/17 Farmer’s Market

This is  one of my favourite things to do in my surroundings.  We have a fabulous fresh Farmer’s Market close by and I just love it.  Fresh fruits and veggies, meats, baked goods and the sound of vendors yelling out their upcoming sales is like music to my ears.  I even had a chance to look through all the furniture that I will be decorating my house with.

I stocked up in meats, bought some amazingly fresh butter and raspberry cream tarts and smoked mackerel.  OMG I love this so much, it could be my childhood upbringing when my parents other family friends would get together have potluck dinners, there was always BBQd fish somewhere among the sea of Filipino foods.  I decided that I want to share that same kind of traditions with my children.

I hope you enjoy the video of the travel to the Farmer’s Market!

More to come..

Exploring my Canada

IMG_9100

It’s weird that over time we all forget to look around and see how lucky we all are to be alive and breathing.  Being a Canadian sometimes makes us complacent and numb to what we really have.  Our country is rich in resources, kind people and humour.  Canadians always get the same old lame jokes on the use of “eh” and “Sorry”; but newsflash… We aren’t really that sorry, eh!  It’s funny when other countries have a lot of shit to say about us, yet they have never had the pleasure to visit our country nor really know any of us.  We are the constant “joke”, however over the years I have realized one common thing with my fellow Canadians and that is… we really don’t have that much to complain about.  Of course, we are not free from crime, violence, etc. but, as I look out my open window and it’s quiet with a few sounds from the neighbourhood kids.  I truly appreciate where I am.

I rant about the current government, I won’t go into that in this post lol, but when I stop and think about it we have a lot more say, we have a lot more power than we even know.   On that note, my new adventure will include visiting all the towns and cities that surround my little corner of Canada.  I will bring you all with me and show you the world through my eyes.

Canada turns 150 years old on July 1st, I will be spending it with my recently reunited childhood best friend and our families.  It’s time to celebrate our beautiful Canada and what it has always had to offer!  YAY Canada!!

Review: Kong Skull Island

Kong Skull Island

I’ve loved and hated many movie remakes so when I found out that they were releasing a new King Kong movie I was, naturally, I was curious.  I admit I was skeptical as I’ve seen the King Kong remakes and have been thoroughly disappointed.. until I watched this movie.  Right from the start this movie held my attention.  If you’re into action and enjoy the whole Man vs Beast conflict narrative this is the movie to watch.

Unlike most remakes, where they stick very close to the original story, this new Kong movie direction is the most intriguing.  Instead of jumping right into the destruction of New York City, this movie takes you to a very gritty past of Kong.  I’ve always wondered why Kong was so huge.  Was it gamma rays? Mutation? etc.  they all crossed my mind, but this direction is definitely my favourite.

In this new version, it takes us right into the jungle of 1973 where everything is gigantic and terrifying.  It took me back to the excitement of the Jurassic Park series The action from Kong taking on a giant squid to fighting the weirdest looking monster, named “Skull Crawlers” I still don’t know what the heck it was, but it was vicious to say the least.

The story then leads us to an action packed ending where I felt a series coming up.  I am excited about it and the change has been long awaited one.  Kong is a great classic monster along with Godzilla and this is a great way to explain a lot of the questions I have always wondered.

Kong Skull Island, with the help of CGI (computer-generated imagery), brings out a refreshing direction.  I’m anticipating where the writers will take us in the future of cinema eye candy.

Watch this movie and let me know what you think.

Movie Review: Split

splitmovie

I was hearing and reading quite a bit of reviews regarding this movie.  I haven’t watched any of the trailers for this movie and it was a good thing.  I am all for psychological thrillers, however I was disappointed at how predictable it was.  I’m going to totally spoil this movie so if you haven’t watched it yet.. stop reading this post right now.

Like I said I love scary movies filled with gore, however when it comes to psychological thrillers things have to make sense to me.  I didn’t understand why he kidnapped these girls with no plan.  It didn’t make any sense why they were held.  I mean, honestly I thought that was the weakest and one of the important details off the whole plot.  There was no extortion of money, no deviant motive.. it didn’t make any sense.  Now, granted James McAvoy did an excellent job portraying each of his personalities, it was sadly predictable and didn’t keep my attention for a lot of the movie.

I won’t be watching this movie again, but now I know their advertising team did a great job .  lol

Halfway there

Another Wednesday and we’re halfway to the end of the week.  My new time schedule for my radio shows are working out great.  My evening shows have been so much fun and interacting with my online peeps while I do the show has left me crying with laughter.  I’ve met more great people that share my sense of humour and it’s so refreshing.  It reminds me why I love what I do.  Making people laugh so they can forget about whatever is bothering them is my goal.

Getting into my new routine is so exciting and is solidifying my businesses. I’m getting closer to my goals and I’m thoroughly enjoying the journey.  I’ve learned so much and I am on the verge of getting more education for my businesses.  Next on my list is my promotion and marketing plans, I’ve found that this can be tricky and I’m exploring different strategies for each of my businesses.  I have a couple ways involving social media (of course) combined with some “old school” business practices I’ve learned over the years.  It feels great to be able to execute and tweak my skills and watch them evolve into things I never thought was possible.  I have to remind myself to take my time and work on my projects being mindful of the small details.

I’m keeping my eyes on the prize!

Review: imPRESS Press-on Manicure

imPRESS Press-on Manicure

I received these in the mail and it was a complete surprise!  It couldn’t have come at a better time because I removed the rest of my gel nail remnants and was just about to go to the salon.  I haven’t used press-on nails since I was 16 years old, so this kind of made me a nostalgic. lol

So, let’s get into it:

As you can see in the first picture, I received 2 different styles, one with a black lace pattern, and the other had a more oil slick look (Villains):

Villains

Villains

The “Villains” set had some inspirational characters on the side, I love that!

I decided to go with the Black Lace pattern:

Black Lace

First, the packaging is great!  They are shaped in a nail polish bottle and the cap twists off just like a polish.  It makes for great storage with the rest of my nail polishes on display in my studio.  They come with 12 nail sizes and a total of 24 nails which is great in case I need to replace one, or if I choose to do another full set later on.

The instructions are easy, pick your size for your nail, peel and stick!  The nails also came with a prep pad, which by the smell, seems to be an acetone type of remover to ensure a good clean bonding with the adhesive.

The sizes I chose fit my nails well, however my natural nails tend to curve down.  There is a little bit of space between the nail and the press-ons which kind of makes me concerned, however I will try them out for the week with normal wear and tear and see if they last.

I do believe these are a good alternative to painting or salon nails, taking less than 20 minutes to apply and perfectly shaped.

The pricing for these range from $8.99 to $10.99 for patterns and they are available at Walmart, Target, London Drugs, Loblaws, Jean Coutu, Katz and more.

Finish product

Here is the finished product…. so, on with the week and we’ll see how these nails can hold up with my hectic life! 🙂

Quo Make-up Remover wipes and Kirkland Signature Daily Facial Towelettes

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been trying some different facial cleansing wipes. Since I am on the go, quite a bit with and without my children, I have to have these in my purse.  Ever since I’ve had my first child, I have always toted around a small packet of wipes. That goes back to when my mom used to keep all the KFC towelette packets in her purse. She was definitely right because I’ve had to reach for a wipe or two wiping fingers and mouths from my kids!

I was happy to see that they finally have facial cleansing wipes available which smell more “adult” and less “toddler”.

I went to my local Shoppers Drug Mart and found that Quo (their exclusive brand) had started selling their Quo Make-Up Remover Wipes. I tried two packages, so approximately 1-2 months worth from this company. The scent is pleasant and at first I was nervous about whether my combination skin would get irritated. To my surprise the formula is pleasant and non-drying nor did it irritate my skin. It even managed to remove several layers of non-waterproof and waterproof mascara.

A couple weeks ago I was shopping at Costco and found Kirkland Signature Daily Facial Towelettes. It came in a box of a total of 150 sheets in 30 sheet and 15 sheet packages. I was running low on my Quo wipes so I decided to try it out and see if it was comparable. I was pleasantly surprised to know that the Kirkland and Quo brands both smell incredibly similar. The Quo brand is a little stronger in scent but the Kirkland formula worked equally as well. Depending on how much mascara I put on. I did have to use extra sheets, or hold the wipe on my lashes until the formula could dissolve the mascara enough to gently remove it.  No skin irritations either!

Facial Wipes

Overall, if I had to choose between the two I would choose Quo. The formula seems to penetrate my stubborn mascara faster and I used less sheets. I will however continue purchasing and switching from both brands and will try other brands depending on where I shop.   Happy shopping!  🙂
