Exploring my Canada

IMG_9100

It’s weird that over time we all forget to look around and see how lucky we all are to be alive and breathing.  Being a Canadian sometimes makes us complacent and numb to what we really have.  Our country is rich in resources, kind people and humour.  Canadians always get the same old lame jokes on the use of “eh” and “Sorry”; but newsflash… We aren’t really that sorry, eh!  It’s funny when other countries have a lot of shit to say about us, yet they have never had the pleasure to visit our country nor really know any of us.  We are the constant “joke”, however over the years I have realized one common thing with my fellow Canadians and that is… we really don’t have that much to complain about.  Of course, we are not free from crime, violence, etc. but, as I look out my open window and it’s quiet with a few sounds from the neighbourhood kids.  I truly appreciate where I am.

I rant about the current government, I won’t go into that in this post lol, but when I stop and think about it we have a lot more say, we have a lot more power than we even know.   On that note, my new adventure will include visiting all the towns and cities that surround my little corner of Canada.  I will bring you all with me and show you the world through my eyes.

Canada turns 150 years old on July 1st, I will be spending it with my recently reunited childhood best friend and our families.  It’s time to celebrate our beautiful Canada and what it has always had to offer!  YAY Canada!!

Crazy Spring!

May was the craziest month of 2017, so far.  2 of my sons dislocated their shoulders, I had doctor and physio appointments top that with some rain and you get a beautiful disaster.  It seemed that as soon as it was clear blue skies and bright sun, the weather would do a complete switch and it would be pouring rain and humid as hell.  It has been a weird time of the year but I am not complaining.  I’m too distracted by all the planning I have to do for next year.

The last 3 weeks i’ve been filling doll orders as well as planning for a big event in May of 2018.  There’s so much to do and to tell you the truth, it kind of feels like I’m planning a huge elaborate wedding!  NO I am NOT getting married lol.  I remember when I was part of the Filipino Association as the Treasurer.  I had to organize the bills and quotations as well as book the event facility.  Mind you, it was a hell of lot easier because I had a large team of 8 people who took over a lot of the mundane work I didn’t have time for.  Now, here I am with a team of 4 people trying to organize the whole thing.. from the decorations, entertainment and food.. it’s all me.  There are packages to prepare, contests to plan… just as I am writing this I feel my brain throbbing with all the planning I have yet to do.  I did manage to lock the date and facility down, but now my creative juices have to start kicking into full swing!  I definitely need a bigger team.

As I look at all the upcoming appointments for my sons, follow up appointments for me, etc. The more I see sleepless nights in my horizon.  I don’t mind though, with a 4 year old full of energy surrounding me during the day, the only time that works is when all the pterodactyls are snoring away.  Does anyone else find more time to focus on detailed things at night?  I feel like I’m not alone in this.

They say working from home is way harder than working outside the home, this is so true.  It’s not like I can checkout and come back the next day to finish tasks.  Every day I wake up and there’s a mountain of things to do; add in the event planning and boom a fulfilled evening is born.  I love the quiet of night time working, but there are times where my procrastination takes over for a bit.  I’m surprisingly way ahead of deadlines and while on this journey, I have met so many amazing people that have offered a helping hand.  The world may be cynical but the balance is surrounding yourself with positive people who are excited to help you succeed.  If it wasn’t for all my new found support and newly developing friendships all my preparations and planning wouldn’t be this fun.

Sometimes you get little reminders here and there that you are on the right path, every time I meet a new friend it solidifies that I have the support I need and I am finally on the road to success and true happiness.  Summer is going to be fabulous and I can’t wait to share more of my adventures!

I hope you are all having a happy and positive day.  I also hope that you choose happiness in whatever you are currently into.  Yes you have to work hard, but you also have to play hard.. that’s what happiness is.

Much love

Review: Kong Skull Island

Kong Skull Island

I’ve loved and hated many movie remakes so when I found out that they were releasing a new King Kong movie I was, naturally, I was curious.  I admit I was skeptical as I’ve seen the King Kong remakes and have been thoroughly disappointed.. until I watched this movie.  Right from the start this movie held my attention.  If you’re into action and enjoy the whole Man vs Beast conflict narrative this is the movie to watch.

Unlike most remakes, where they stick very close to the original story, this new Kong movie direction is the most intriguing.  Instead of jumping right into the destruction of New York City, this movie takes you to a very gritty past of Kong.  I’ve always wondered why Kong was so huge.  Was it gamma rays? Mutation? etc.  they all crossed my mind, but this direction is definitely my favourite.

In this new version, it takes us right into the jungle of 1973 where everything is gigantic and terrifying.  It took me back to the excitement of the Jurassic Park series The action from Kong taking on a giant squid to fighting the weirdest looking monster, named “Skull Crawlers” I still don’t know what the heck it was, but it was vicious to say the least.

The story then leads us to an action packed ending where I felt a series coming up.  I am excited about it and the change has been long awaited one.  Kong is a great classic monster along with Godzilla and this is a great way to explain a lot of the questions I have always wondered.

Kong Skull Island, with the help of CGI (computer-generated imagery), brings out a refreshing direction.  I’m anticipating where the writers will take us in the future of cinema eye candy.

Watch this movie and let me know what you think.

My passions…

Many of you have been following my blog about reviews on movies, products, etc,  What I haven’t really shared is one of my passions and artistic expression.

6 years ago, my mother in law purchased a doll on eBay for $150CDN.  Of course, I was curious and when she showed me this open eyed doll with soft hair and realistic features, I was hooked!  I purchased some affordable vinyl doll kits, bought some paint and  learned by trial and error.  I am a seasoned self-taught Reborn Doll Artist with years of experience and I am confident in my skills and ability to turn a simple piece of vinyl into a lifelike baby.

I’m well aware of how people react to these dolls, some negative, but most are very positive and just as curious as I was.  I’ve had the pleasure of teaching this art to friends and family.  What made me even more passionate about this art is that they are now used for therapy for many people with Autism, Alzheimer’s, PTSD and those that are experiencing loss.

I have met many great people through this art form over the years and I continue to meet new friends on a daily basis.  One thing rings truth among the artists I have met and that is to share our artwork and participate in a cause that effects so many people and their families.

This year, my goal is to spread the word of how these beautiful dolls are not only for collectors but they serve a purpose that many need in our communities.

I’m taking you all on this new journey, so enjoy the ride! 🙂

Review: Logan movie

loganmovie

If you are a fan of the X-Men then you will absolutely love this movie! Yes, my brother collected almost all the Wolverine comics and he’d let me read them.  I was hooked by the storylines.  The whole mutant alliance is an amazing one and this whole movie kept it inline with the story of Logan, I was also proud that he is Canadian.

I’ll try not to ruin the whole movie but from the trailers you know that a girl was involved.  The action in this movie was nonstop and I felt a very strong relationship which was a perfect blend of new and old X-Men.

If you’re interested in watching this be prepared to go on a journey full of hurdles.  I will watch this movie over and over.. it’s THAT good.

If you’re looking for a Friday Flick or something to watch this weekend, I would totally recommend this movie.  For those Action movie watchers, this movie will not disappoint you.

Let me know what you think!

Review: Danielle Facial Cleansing Spin Brush

I know I’m late in the game of the wonderful world of skin cleansing spin brushes, but after watching many videos and advertising about how clean one’s face would feel I had to try it out.  img_8949-1.jpg

I didn’t want to invest in a gadget that costs over $100, I figured this Danielle Ultrasonic Deep Facial Cleansing System would be close to the other big brands.  I found it in Winner’s for $25 you can find it on Amazon for a little over $40, that being said I’ll get into my experience,

I started the brush up according to the instructions and it felt so weird!  I was very careful in not adding too much pressure to my face with it and I prayed that it would  make some kind of difference, which it did.  My face felt smooth and yes, deeply cleansed.  However, I found a concerning flaw though.  I struggled a bit to wash it out properly  to avoid any bacteria that could grow on it.

IMG_8948

As you can see from the above picture that it’s not completely clean with my waterproof makeup.  I left my face alone for a week.  I did a round 2 with the brush and I doused the brush with rubbing alcohol.. this was a BIG MISTAKE!  I didn’t rinse the rubbing alcohol completely and I started the brush up and my face started to burn… and you guessed it, I almost chemically burned my face!  Don’t do that.  Round 2 didn’t give me as much of a cleansing feeling, possibly because my face was burning.

The travel case was of great quality and it is my favourite colour lol.  I tried the other attachments but there wasn’t much difference between all of them, they all scrubbed my face off.  Overall, it was ok, I don’t think I’ll be reaching for it a whole lot but I’m also happy I didn’t spend over $100 on a product I just “meh” about.

If you  are curious about the more expensive brands I would suggest you try out one that’s more affordable before investing a lot on a product you may not even like after awhile. Also, you have to sanitize it before and after you use it, it’s just a lot of extra work than buying a face cloth and exfoliating with it.

Let me know what you think of this skincare regiment I’m curious to know how long people stick to using this spin brush.

Review: Organik Botanik Brown Sugar Face Scrub

In the midst of our unpredictable Canadian Spring, there comes a time when we Canadian gals have to, what I call, “descale”.  This means all the dry indoor air leaves my skin so dry, I literally feel like I need to shed layers of Winter skin… I know, gross right?

I guess my new “jam” has been Winner’s and I’ve been having good luck finding little steals here and there.. But this.. this right here…

Organik Botanik Brown Sugar Face Scrub

This was the WORST product I’ve ever bought in my LIFE!!  At first, it felt like other facial scrubs when I rinsed it out I noticed my skin was a bit shiny like I had put oil on my face.   To this very day my face is a hot mess!  My forehead and cheeks feel like sandpaper and I have cystic acne on my chin!!  When I break out it’s usually one angry pimple, but this??!!  OMG it destroyed my skin!!  With this in mind, I’m going back to my favourite skincare treatment  (Biotherm Plankon Essence) to fix this face somehow.

I paid $7.99CDN for this, so basically I paid $8.00 for my break out!  It’ll be a while before try anything like this again! lol

Hope you guys had a great day.. I’m going back to living with a bag over my head until this angry breakout goes away.  If you see this anywhere.. keep walking, it’s horrible.

Review: Bamboo Shampoo and Conditioner by Renpure

IMG_8432

Yet another find from Winners, Renpure’s Bamboo Shampoo and Conditioner, I needed to find a mild yet effective shampoo and conditioner.  I have been trying to repair my hair for the last month and this has helped a great deal.  I had to get used to the little amount of suds it made but the scent was incredible and the conditioner was light and kept my hair under control especially during the new humid weather.  I’m falling more and more in love with Winners and I will be visiting their sister company Marshalls soon.  I’m working on footage for my comparisons with Winners and Marshalls with some video footage of me shopping at both stores.  Stay tuned! 🙂

If you’re looking for something to protect your colour don’t use this product, it is extremely strong and could possibly strip the colour out of your hair.  Other than that, this combo smells sooo great and it was a nice change from all the deep conditioners I have been using during the winter months.  Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you.

Much love,

SS
